Privacy Policy

CourtScope minimizes personal information and separates public data from restricted evidence.

Public case pages never display defendant names. Correction reporter emails are private and scheduled for deletion 90 days after closure. Raw IP addresses are not retained; salted abuse-prevention hashes may be used. Restricted source artifacts remain private unless a lawful, ethical public release is approved.

City-data submissions

Files uploaded through the Add a City page are stored in private evidence storage, not in the public website or Git repository. Submission contact details are visible only to authorized administrators. Uploaded packages may be retained while they are reviewed, processed, rejected, investigated, or placed in the controlled cleanup queue.

Do not upload defendant names, addresses, Social Security numbers, phone numbers, email addresses, or other direct identifiers through the automated repository-ready form. Contact data@courtscope.org before transferring raw records.

What controls

Official source terms, applicable law, dataset-specific notices, and the current published CourtScope methodology control where they are more specific. Contact info@courtscope.org for questions.
